Apache Karaf

The Modulith Runtime

Visit Apache Karaf

Apache Karaf is a modulith runtime for enterprise applications, intended to handle the surrounding runtime concerns so developers can concentrate on business code. It runs on premise or in the cloud, on any machine with Java, including Docker images, and supports several frameworks and application types such as REST/API, Web, and Spring Boot.

The runtime includes an HTTP service, instance management, JMX, configuration, security, a shell console with SSH, logging, deployers, and provisioning for frameworks including JAX-RS and Spring Boot. A shell console ships out of the box for managing bundles, features, configuration, and instances interactively or remotely over SSH/JMX. Related projects extend the platform: Karaf Cellar provides clustering with discovery, cluster groups, resource synchronization, and DOSGi, while Karaf Decanter offers monitoring, alerting, and business activity monitoring through collectors, a dispatcher, alerting, and appenders.

Karaf is distributed as an open-source project under the Apache v2 license, with sources, mailing lists, and an issue tracker available to the community.
