Visit Apache Stratos

Apache Stratos is an extensible Platform-as-a-Service framework for running Apache Tomcat, PHP, and MySQL applications, with support for additional environments across major cloud infrastructures. It gives developers a cloud environment for developing, testing, and running scalable applications, while providing IT providers with automated resource management and platform-wide monitoring and billing.

Core components include the Cloud Controller, CEP, Auto Scaler, and Stratos Manager, which comprises the Artifact Distribution Coordinator and REST API. The cartridge model supports language, framework, and data cartridges, including legacy containers. Multi-factored auto scaling uses HTTP traffic and non-HTTP health data, with load prediction via the complex event processor. Multi-tenancy covers container and in-container isolation, alongside scalable dynamic load balancing, cloud bursting, and IaaS control through partitions and network partitions. Integration with third-party systems uses a message bus and real-time event bus, with IaaS plug-ins via the Apache jclouds API.

Stratos targets developers, IT providers, and enterprises building multi-tenant SaaS applications, including independent software vendors delivering vertical SaaS offerings. It is distributed under the Apache License and was retired in 2017.
