Visit Apache Mesos

Apache Mesos is a distributed systems kernel that abstracts CPU, memory, storage, and other compute resources from physical or virtual machines, presenting them as a single pool across datacenter and cloud environments. A Mesos kernel runs on every machine and provides APIs for resource management and scheduling to applications such as Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, and Elasticsearch, enabling fault-tolerant and elastic distributed systems.

The project includes native support for launching containers with Docker and AppC images, pluggable isolation for CPU, memory, disk, ports, GPU, and custom resource modules, and two-level scheduling that supports cloud-native and legacy applications in the same cluster. It provides HTTP APIs for developing distributed applications, operating the cluster, and monitoring, along with a built-in Web UI for viewing cluster state and navigating container sandboxes. High availability is provided through replicated masters and agents using ZooKeeper, with non-disruptive upgrades. Mesos runs on Linux, OSX, and Windows, and is cloud provider agnostic.

Apache Mesos is intended for teams operating distributed applications and datacenter or cloud infrastructure. The project has retired; the homepage directs readers to its Attic page for details.
