Memcached

Distributed memory object caching system.

Visit Memcached

Memcached is a free and open-source distributed memory object caching system that stores small chunks of arbitrary data, such as strings and objects, in memory. It is intended to reduce database load in dynamic web applications by serving results from database calls, API calls, or page rendering before they need to be fetched again. Nodes can operate independently or share a virtual pool of memory across a web cluster, so cache capacity grows as servers are added.

Memcached exposes an API available for most popular languages and can be accessed over a network protocol, with a default port of 11211. It supports basic get and set operations along with statistics commands for monitoring. Source releases are available as tarballs, and the project provides documentation, a mailing list, and community chat for support. It is distributed under a free and open-source license, with no paid editions or usage-based plans described.
