Apache CouchDB

Seamless multi-primary sync, that scales from Big Data to Mobile, with an Intuitive HTTP/2

Visit Apache CouchDB

Apache CouchDB is an open-source database that stores data as JSON and exposes it through an HTTP API. It addresses the need for data access across distributed environments, including server clusters, mobile devices, and web browsers, enabling offline-first applications through multi-primary replication. It can run as a single node or as a cluster across multiple servers or VMs.

CouchDB includes a developer-friendly query language with optional MapReduce for data retrieval. It speaks JSON natively, supports binary data, and works with HTTP proxy servers and load balancers. The Couch Replication Protocol enables data flow between server clusters, mobile phones, and web browsers. PouchDB is built for mobile and web browsers and can replicate data with CouchDB. Fauxton provides a web UI for managing CouchDB. Individual nodes use a crash-resistant append-only data structure, and multi-node clusters store data redundantly for availability.

CouchDB is suited to developers building web and native applications, including those working in environments with challenging network infrastructure. It is distributed as open source under the Apache License 2.0, with source code and packages available for Windows, macOS, and Linux distributions.
