Xata

Branch-native Postgres platform

Visit Xata

Xata is a serverless Postgres platform that creates isolated database branches for each coding agent task, pull request, preview deployment, or CI run, so parallel work does not collide on a shared staging database. Branches use copy-on-write storage, scale to zero when idle, and wake on the first query, running vanilla PostgreSQL without a fork.

Branching integrates with GitHub, CI, coding agents, and preview deployments, with branches created and removed automatically through an API or MCP. The platform includes built-in observability, high availability with automatic failover to read replicas, PITR backups, anonymization, and multi-region deployment across AWS, GCP, and Azure. It can be used as a managed cloud service, self-hosted, or deployed in your own cloud (BYOC).

Xata targets engineering teams, platforms, and companies provisioning databases for users or agents. Pricing is resource-based rather than per user or per branch: a free open-source self-managed edition, a pay-as-you-go managed cloud plan with a 14-day trial and no credit card required, and a BYOC edition quoted as a percentage of managed cloud spend. Tiers are defined by concurrent branch limits.
