Typemill

Flat-file CMS for text-driven websites and documentation

Visit Typemill

Typemill is an open-source, self-hosted flat-file content management system for building documentation sites, knowledge bases, internal wikis, product manuals, and eBooks. Content is stored in Markdown files and runs on PHP servers without a database, keeping hosting simple and content portable.

It includes a Markdown editor, media library, AI-assisted writing via the Kixote interface, reusable variables, revisions, Mermaid and PlantUML diagrams, hierarchical navigation with drag-and-drop ordering, multi-project and multi-language support, and publishing to websites, PDF manuals, and EPUB eBooks. Extensibility comes through themes, plugins, a REST API, and AI and LDAP connectors, with access control through public and internal sites, restricted pages, and role-based access.

Typemill is aimed at individuals, developers, agencies, authors, consultants, and companies managing documentation projects. The core CMS is free under the MIT license with community support. Optional annual licenses, Maker and Business, unlock premium themes and plugins, remote PDF generation, revisions, variables, templates, and LDAP connectivity; each license covers one production domain.
