Tuwunel

A high-performance Matrix homeserver and the official successor to conduwuit.

Visit Tuwunel

Tuwunel is a Matrix chat server developed as the successor to Conduit and conduwuit. It is positioned as communication infrastructure for organizations that need reliable, specification-compliant messaging, with development shaped by corporate and government sponsors. The project is maintained by full-time staff, with an active public codebase and regular releases.

The server supports enterprise authentication through OAuth 2.0, OIDC, LDAP, and JWT, and includes Matrix RTC support for Element Call video and voice conferencing. It implements a substantial set of Matrix Spec Change proposals, with implementation status tracked in a public audit, and passes a large share of the Matrix homeserver acceptance suite. It also supports most known Synapse Admin API endpoints, covering user, room, device, registration, and moderation operations. Work on multi-node scale-out, high availability, and rolling maintenance is underway, with sponsor-funded architecture and validation.

Tuwunel is available at no cost, and the project offers paid enterprise engineering, support, and custom integration work for organizations with requirements beyond the public defaults. Sponsors can engage around documented requirements, milestones, and acceptance criteria, including deployment-critical features, identity and policy integrations, migration, and infrastructure work.
