Matrix is an open network and protocol for decentralised, secure communication. It provides a foundation for chatting with friends, families, communities and co-workers, and for developers to build communication applications on top of it. The project is open source, with a published specification and developer documentation, and is stewarded by the Matrix.org Foundation.
The Matrix ecosystem includes clients, servers, bots and application services. Integrations and bridges connect Matrix with third-party platforms, including RSS feeds, email, Trello, GitHub, GitLab, JIRA, Jenkins, Mastodon and Pleroma. The ecosystem also includes bots for AI and large language models, helpdesk and moderation tools, registration management, room search, and widgets for polls, meetings, video conferences, whiteboards and virtual Barcamps.
