Superdesk

Open source headless CMS and newsroom platform for publishers

Visit Superdesk

Superdesk is an open-source, web-based digital newsroom system that combines headless CMS functionality with editorial workflow features. It supports end-to-end news creation, production, curation, distribution and publishing, allowing content to be created once and delivered to multiple platforms with format adjustments. Its modular, API-centric architecture is designed to integrate with legacy newsroom systems and third-party applications, and it supports secure authentication and customisable access for freelancers and remote teams.

Key capabilities include customisable desks and workspaces, newsroom automation through article templates, content profiles, Elasticsearch-powered saved searches, text annotations, file attachments, and an optional Analytics Module for productivity reporting. A Production API connects content in production to third-party services, while ReSTful APIs, MongoDB and Elasticsearch form the underlying stack. The interface supports multiple UI languages, personal dictionaries, predictive text and autocomplete, and user activity tracking.

Superdesk is aimed at news agencies, newspapers and corporate publishers of varying sizes, from small newsletters to large-scale newsrooms. It is open source with no licence fee, and the site offers a demo for organisations evaluating the system.
