Visit Backdrop CMS

Backdrop CMS is a free, open source Content Management System for building websites, from personal blogs to complex multi-role business and e-commerce platforms. It is a fork of Drupal, described as Drupal 7 modernized, and includes a built-in upgrade path from Drupal 7. The project is maintained as a non-profit under the Software Freedom Conservancy.

Core features include Views, a dynamic list builder included in core; automatic pattern-based URL generation; administration tools in core; a robust permission system for controlling access by role; responsive layouts for phones and tablets; and a Configuration Management interface for deploying changes from development to production. Backdrop includes necessary libraries in core, offers a robust API for customization, and supports add-ons such as modules, themes, and layouts. Security releases are issued for the last two minor releases or eight months, and the project collaborates with the Drupal and Drupal 7 security teams.

Backdrop CMS is aimed at individuals, non-profits, educational institutions, government bodies, and corporate sites. It is free software with no acquisition or licensing costs, and is available to download or try through a demo.
