Piskel
Free online editor for animated sprites and pixel art
Piskel is a free online editor for creating animated sprites and pixel art directly in the browser, covering characters, animations, and tiles. It supports drawing from scratch or starting from an example, with a live preview that shows the animation in real time as you draw and lets you adjust the frame delay on the fly. The code is open source and available on GitHub.
Export options include animated GIFs for sharing and spritesheet PNG/ZIP files for larger projects, among other export modes. Free desktop and offline applications are available for Windows, OSX, and Linux. The editor is best used in a desktop browser in landscape orientation. A child-friendly variant called Piskel For Kids is also offered, designed to be safe and distraction-free for kids, teachers, and parents.
