Tux Paint

Free art software for kids of all ages

Visit Tux Paint

Tux Paint is a free, open-source drawing program designed for children aged 3 to 12, used in schools as a computer literacy drawing activity. It solves the problem of providing a simple, engaging, and safe creative tool for young users, combining an easy-to-use interface with fun sound effects and a cartoon mascot that guides children. Kids are presented with a blank canvas and a variety of drawing tools to help them be creative.

The program includes a wide range of drawing tools such as paint brushes, a rubber stamp tool with hundreds of images, a line tool, shape tool, text and label tools, and over 90 special effect "Magic" tools. These magic tools are grouped into categories including distorts, color filters, picture warps, painting effects, and pattern painting. Tux Paint runs on multiple platforms including Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, Haiku, and Chromebooks that support Android apps. It supports numerous languages and includes parental and teacher controls for configuration.

Tux Paint is intended for children, particularly in preschool and K-6 settings, though adults also use it for nostalgia or generating glitch art. It is free of cost and free of advertisements, distributed as open source software under the GNU General Public License. There is no mention of a free plan, trial, or paid editions; the software is available for download without restrictions.
