Mathesar

Open source UI for Postgres databases

Visit Mathesar

Mathesar is an open-source, self-hosted web application that provides a spreadsheet-like interface for viewing, editing, and querying PostgreSQL data. It connects directly to a Postgres database using its native schemas, tables, and role-based permissions, without adding an abstraction layer, so data stays on the user's own infrastructure.

The interface supports joining tables, filtering, sorting, grouping, and summarizing data to build custom views without writing SQL. Records can be created, updated, and corrected through the spreadsheet UI, and data can be imported and exported from the interface. Access control relies on Postgres permissions, and the application installs via Docker. It is licensed under GPLv3 and maintained by a nonprofit foundation.

Mathesar is aimed at both database administrators and non-technical users who need to work with shared Postgres data, including use cases such as inventory tracking, dashboards, and CRUD front ends. It is self-hostable, and a free cloud option is available.
