Gramps Web

Open-source genealogy web application.

Visit Gramps Web

Gramps Web is a web application for collaborative family history research, built on the same model and database structure as the Gramps Desktop genealogy application. It stores the same record types—people, families, events, places, repositories, sources, citations, media objects, and notes—and supports bidirectional synchronization with Gramps Desktop through the Gramps Web Sync Add-on, so data can be edited in either place.

Features include interactive family tree graphs (ancestor, descendant, hourglass, relationship, and fan charts) with in-chart editing, a chronological timeline, interactive and historical maps, full-text and semantic search, and an integrated AI assistant that queries the database directly. It also offers DNA match analysis with a chromosome browser and Y-DNA haplogroup determination, automated face detection for photo tagging, revision history with undo, privacy levels and user access controls, a genealogy blog, task management, printable reports, OCR text recognition, and data verification. It runs as a progressive web app across devices and supports over 50 interface languages.

Gramps Web is intended for individuals and groups documenting family history together, with user roles including owner, editor, contributor, and member. Sign-in supports passwords or external identity providers such as Google, Microsoft, Keycloak, Authentik, and Authelia. Data can be imported in formats including Gramps XML and GEDCOM and exported at any time; a demo is available.
