The web's leading online collaborative genealogy application

Visit webtrees

webtrees is an open-source web application for publishing genealogy online and collaborating with relatives on family trees. It runs on a website with PHP and MySQL installed, works from standard GEDCOM files, and is compatible with major desktop genealogy applications. It is designed to keep control of family history data with the site administrator.

The application includes configurable display pages for individuals and families, sortable lists, on-screen charts in multiple layouts, text and PDF reports, a calendar, general and advanced search, and multimedia support for photos, documents, certificates, and video. Maps use OpenStreetMap to show locations associated with events. Privacy controls can be configured at the site, family tree, user, individual record, and fact levels. Collaboration features let registered users share and edit information with access controlled by the administrator. The interface supports over 60 languages, multiple surname conventions, and six bundled themes with additional community themes.

webtrees is intended for individuals, families, and organizations that want to host and manage their own genealogy website. It is open-source software available at no cost, with no paid editions, trials, or seat-based plans described.
