Conversations is an open source Jabber/XMPP client for Android 6.0+ smartphones. It handles text messaging, file and image sharing, group chats, and end-to-end encrypted communication, while keeping a direct connection to an XMPP server rather than relying on Google's push messaging system.
The client supports OMEMO and OpenPGP end-to-end encryption, TLS for client-server and server-server traffic, and a range of XMPP extensions including Multi-User Chat, Jingle file transfer and audio/video calls, Message Carbons for multi-device synchronization, Message Archive Management for history loading, Chat Markers and delivery receipts, User Avatars, and Stream Management for unstable mobile connections. It also offers read markers with an opt-out setting, dynamic tags for organizing contacts, and address book integration in the F-Droid build. The source code is publicly available under GPLv3.
Conversations is aimed at individual users and organizations that want to choose or operate their own XMPP server. It is distributed through the Google Play Store as a paid app with access to beta testing, and can also be built from source. Professional support for setup and server configuration is available separately.
