Bort

A web app for bookmarks

Visit Bort

Bort is a web app for storing and browsing website bookmarks and searching the web through custom search engines. It is intended for daily web browsing and can be used as a browser home page or default new tab page, including on public or borrowed computers. Bookmarks are saved as a file in Dropbox and are also kept in the browser's local database, with periodic automatic sync across devices and browsers.

Features include importing existing browser bookmarks, adding bookmarks individually, browser extensions for bookmarking, tags, custom icons, and search bookmarks that pass a query to an external search engine. Search bookmarks marked as favorites appear when a query does not match normal bookmarks, and a question mark prefix lists all search bookmarks. Bookmarks can be exported as a Netscape HTML file or as JSON from Dropbox. Dark mode is available, and search suggestions can be enabled in preferences.

Bort is free, with a demo available before connecting a Dropbox account. There are no separate user accounts; access is through Dropbox, which stores the bookmarks file. It is aimed at people who want a moderate set of frequently accessed links rather than a large archive, and it has no social or sharing features.
