ArchivesSpace

Open-source archives information management application for managing and providing web/URL

Visit ArchivesSpace

ArchivesSpace is an open-source, browser-based archives information management application for managing and providing access to archives, manuscripts, and digital objects. It supports a range of archival functions within a single system, including accessioning, arrangement, description, preservation, and access, helping repositories maintain intellectual and physical control over collections.

Key capabilities include accession records that can spawn other record types, Resource and Digital Object records for description, assessment records for condition and research value, and location records for physical shelving. It supports authority control through Subject and Agent records, standards such as DACS, and import/export of EAD, EAC-CPF, MARCXML, METS, MODS, and Dublin Core. An API enables integration with other software, and both a staff interface with granular permissions and an optional public user interface are available.

ArchivesSpace is intended for archival repositories including academic, public library, museum, corporate, and government institutions. The application is free to download and use, while membership sustains the program and provides benefits such as technical support and access to the user manual. Membership is offered across five levels with corresponding fees.
