Samvera
A community developing repository software tools for digital collections
Samvera is an open-source community of information and technology professionals that builds repository software tools. It addresses the need for flexible, sustainable digital repository solutions that can manage and provide access to digital collections, research outputs, and cultural heritage materials. The community provides a common infrastructure that allows institutions to tailor repository solutions to their local demands and workflows.
The Samvera Community develops several repository solutions built on a shared technology stack. These include Hyrax, a highly customizable and extensible repository platform, and Hyku, a turn-key solution designed for faster implementation. The community also supports related projects such as Enact, a specialist practice research repository. Samvera solutions are designed to integrate with existing institutional systems and workflows, and the community actively develops and maintains these tools through collaborative governance.
Samvera is designed for academic libraries, cultural heritage institutions, and research organizations that need to manage digital collections and scholarly outputs. The community is supported by more than 30 formal Partners who contribute to its development and sustainability. As an open-source community, the software is freely available for adoption and use, with institutions able to choose between highly customized implementations or ready-to-deploy turn-key solutions.
