Apache Nutch is an open-source web crawler for acquiring data from websites and other sources. It runs locally or on a Hadoop cluster, using Hadoop data structures for batch processing of large data volumes while also supporting smaller jobs. Configuration is fine-grained, and the crawler can be adapted to a range of data acquisition tasks.

Nutch ships with plugins including parsing via Apache Tika and indexing with Apache Solr and Elasticsearch. It exposes stable interfaces for parsers, HTML filtering, indexing, and scoring so custom implementations can be added. It is designed for trusted environments, with configuration files treated as trusted input and access to the runtime restricted to trusted users; URL filters, IP address filters, and disabling the protocol-file plugin help prevent private resources from being crawled. The legacy JAX-RS REST service was removed in version 1.23. No pricing, trial, or edition details are stated.
