Ximera

Ximera provides the backend technology for online courses

Visit Ximera

Ximera is an interactive textbook platform built at Ohio State University that lets authors write course documents in LaTeX and publish them as computer-graded worksheets. Content is stored on GitHub and served to students as web activities alongside printable PDFs, so a single source file produces both formats. Courses are self-paced, and the platform is free to use.

Authors use the Ximera document class in LaTeX and the xake tool to convert TeX documents into interactive HTML worksheets. GitHub is used for storing and sharing content, and branches can be used to run A/B tests. Activity logs can be downloaded via xake and analyzed using xAPI, and the platform computes statistics on student success such as point biserials. Sign-in options include Google, Twitter, and GitHub accounts.

Ximera is intended for instructors, students, and researchers working with mathematics course materials. Existing content covers Calculus 1, Calculus 2, and Calculus 3. Courses are self-paced with no fixed start or end dates, and the platform is free to use.
