Twisted is an event-driven networking engine written in Python and released under the MIT License. It addresses the problem of building custom network applications on a single asynchronous framework, covering TCP servers, web servers, publish/subscribe systems, mail clients, and SSH clients. It supports common protocols including SMTP, POP3, IMAP, SSHv2, and DNS, along with SSL, UDP, scheduled events, and unit testing infrastructure.

The project includes an event-driven web server with resource handling and an HTTP client, an IMAP4 client library, and SSH client and server support through the conch module. It runs on CPython 3.7+ and PyPy3, and is installed via pip. Related libraries maintained by the same community include klein, ldaptor, pydoctor, towncrier, treq, and txmongo. Twisted is distributed as open source software; no paid editions, trials, or seat-based plans are described.
