Mopidy

The extensible music server

Visit Mopidy

Mopidy is an extensible music server written in Python that plays music from local disk, Spotify, SoundCloud, Internet radio, and other sources. It can be controlled from any phone, tablet, or computer using MPD and web clients. The project is open source, with source code hosted on GitHub.

Mopidy is organized around extensions that add music sources, frontends, and other capabilities. Bundled extensions include mopidy-file, mopidy-m3u, mopidy-stream, mopidy-http, and mopidy-softwaremixer. It supports audio output through Icecast, PulseAudio, and PipeWire, and remote control via UPnP. The HTTP server exposes a JSON-RPC API, and Mopidy.js provides a JavaScript library for web clients. Framework APIs cover the core, frontend, backend, and extension layers, along with audio, mixer, config, HTTP client, and Zeroconf utilities. It runs on Linux, macOS, and Raspberry Pi, either in a terminal or as a service.

Mopidy is aimed at users who want to combine local and online music sources behind a single controllable server, as well as developers building extensions and clients. The documentation covers installation, configuration, clients, troubleshooting, setup guides, and extension development.
