Visit Public Knowledge Project (PKP)

Public Knowledge Project (PKP) is a research and development initiative within Simon Fraser University's Core Facilities Program that develops and maintains free, open source software for scholarly publishing. Its platforms cover the workflow from submission to indexing for journals, books, and preprints, supporting open access dissemination of research.

PKP's software includes Open Journal Systems (OJS) for journal management and publishing, Open Monograph Press (OMP) for end-to-end book publishing with full metadata, and Open Preprint Systems (OPS) for running preprint servers. PKP also provides hosting and support services, consultation and training, and sponsored development, alongside research into scholarly communication issues.

PKP is built on free and open source software principles and licensing. It is sustained by membership contributions, hosting and service revenues, and research grants. The organization employs a globally distributed team including community support professionals, systems administrators, software developers, social science researchers, academic librarians, and university students, and operates with oversight from internal and international committees as well as Simon Fraser University.
