Pelican

Static site generator powered by Python

Visit Pelican

Pelican is a static site generator written in Python that builds sites without a database or server-side logic. It handles both chronological content such as articles and blog posts, as well as static pages, and can import existing content from WordPress, Dotclear, or RSS feeds.

Content can be written in reStructuredText or Markdown. Pelican supports site themes built with Jinja2 templates, multilingual publication, Atom and RSS feeds, code syntax highlighting via Pygments, and integration with external services. Rebuilds are kept fast through content caching and selective output writing, and the tool is extensible through a plugin ecosystem. Installation is done with pip, and a quickstart command scaffolds a new project.

Pelican is aimed at developers and writers who want to publish static sites from Python-based tooling. It is distributed as open source software under the MIT license, with documentation, a quickstart guide, and community contribution channels available alongside the project.
