Octopress

A blogging framework for hackers.

Visit Octopress

Octopress is a blogging framework for Jekyll, the blog-aware static site generator that powers GitHub Pages. It provides templates, plugins, theming and command line automation for building blogs, so users do not have to write their own HTML templates, CSS, JavaScript and configuration from scratch.

Octopress 3.0 is a full rewrite distributed as a selection of semantically versioned gems, each with its own documentation and tests. The Octopress CLI replaces the old Rakefile and can create pages, posts, drafts and collections, manage drafts with publish and unpublish commands, apply templates, deploy via Git, Rsync and S3, and view local documentation for the exact plugin versions in use. Octopress Ink is a framework for building gem-based plugins and themes for Jekyll sites, with independent plugin configuration, automatic asset compilation and fingerprinting, and component overrides. Additional developer tools include Clash, a static-site test suite, and Octopress Debugger, which adds a Liquid debug tag for inspecting Jekyll builds in an interactive Ruby console. The framework also includes a semantic HTML5 template, a mobile-first responsive layout, Sass and Compass theming, syntax highlighting, and plugins for code blocks, Gists, images, blockquotes and category archives.

Octopress is aimed at developers and bloggers working with Jekyll and GitHub Pages. The pages describe distribution through Git and gems, with a legacy codebase maintained for critical updates and a migration path for existing users; no free plan, trial, editions or pricing details are stated.
