Packagist

The PHP package repository

Visit Packagist

Packagist is the default Composer package repository for PHP, aggregating public packages that developers can install with Composer. It solves the problem of finding reusable libraries and telling Composer where to fetch their code from, allowing users to manage project or library dependencies through a central index.

The service provides package search and browsing, an API, Atom/RSS feeds, statistics, mirrors, and a status dashboard. Packages are published by submitting a public repository URL containing a composer.json file, after which Packagist periodically crawls the repository for updates. Automatic updates can be triggered through GitHub, Bitbucket, GitLab, or Gitea webhooks, with manual updates available to maintainers. Composer itself handles dependency definition, installation, and autoloading.

Packagist is aimed at PHP developers who consume public packages and maintainers who publish libraries. The public repository is free to use, while commercial support, consulting, and private package hosting are available through Private Packagist subscription plans.
