OpenSMTPD is a free implementation of the server-side SMTP protocol as defined in RFC 5321, along with additional standard extensions. It enables ordinary machines to exchange email with other systems that speak SMTP, and is described as a fairly complete SMTP implementation. The project is part of the OpenBSD Project and is released under the ISC license.
The software is primarily developed by Gilles Chehade and Eric Faurot, with contributions from OpenBSD hackers and members of other communities. It is developed using the same security process used by the OpenBSD group, and security issues can be reported to a private developers mailing list. The project publishes security advisories covering past releases, with fixes addressed in newer snapshots and releases.
