Open-Meteo

Weather data API

Visit Open-Meteo

Open-Meteo is a free weather API that provides access to weather forecasts and historical weather data for any location worldwide. It solves the problem of needing a simple, unified interface to access data from numerous national weather services, aggregating over 30 numerical weather prediction models from sources like ECMWF, DWD, NOAA, Météo-France, and JMA, with resolutions from 1-2 km for regional models to 9-11 km for global ones.

Its main capabilities include a Forecast API for up to 16-day forecasts, a Historical Weather API using ERA5 reanalysis data from 1940, and a Historical Forecast Archive from 2021. It also offers specialized APIs for ensemble probabilistic forecasts, seasonal forecasts (ECMWF SEAS5), air quality and pollen, marine weather, river discharge (flood), and satellite radiation. The API uses simple HTTP GET requests, returns JSON, and requires no authentication for non-commercial use, with all data licensed under CC BY 4.0.

The service is designed for developers, researchers, and businesses needing weather data. It offers a free tier for non-commercial use with a daily call limit. For commercial use or higher volumes, subscription plans are available on a monthly call budget, providing a dedicated API endpoint, an API key, and a 99.9% uptime target. The full server codebase is also open-source under AGPLv3 for self-hosting.
