NASA WorldWind

A planetary globe 3D engine for building geospatial visualizations

Visit NASA WorldWind

NASA WorldWind is an open source SDK and API for visualizing and hosting geospatial data. Rather than being a standalone 3D globe application, it provides a geographic rendering engine that developers use to build their own applications, handling tasks such as generating terrain from elevation models and selecting imagery from imagery servers.

Client libraries are available for Android, the browser, and the desktop, providing 3D globe, map, and geographical information visualizations across Windows, Mac, Linux, web, and mobile platforms. A server kit extends GeoServer to provide an end-to-end geospatial solution for hosting data. Source code, issue tracking, and releases are managed on GitHub.

WorldWind is intended for software engineers building geospatial applications such as satellite tracking systems, flight simulators, and visualizations of weather, cities, terrain, and vehicle movements. It is released under open source licenses, including the NASA Open Source Agreement and Apache 2.0 for Web WorldWind.
