HackMD

Collaborative Markdown workspace for notes, documentation and knowledge sharing

Visit HackMD

HackMD is a real-time collaborative Markdown editor and knowledge base for teams, communities, and projects. Notes are authored, stored, and versioned as Markdown, keeping a shared source of truth for human collaborators while also serving as context that AI agents can read and write through the same URLs.

Core capabilities include live editing with multiple cursors, comments and mentions, version history, templates, and GitHub integration. Notes can be published with custom permalinks, embedded via iframe, presented in slide mode, or collected in book mode. A REST API and CLI let agents pull notes as Markdown and push drafts back into the workspace, and the platform works with tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Actions, and OpenAI. The editor runs on desktop, tablet, and phone, with image upload, import/export to Dropbox, Google Drive, and Gist, and permissions for read, write, and commenting access.

HackMD is packaged as a free plan for up to three teammates, a seat-based Prime edition with expanded storage, search, versioning, and API allowances, and an Enterprise edition adding role-based access control, SSO, custom domains, GitLab integration, and self-hosting options.
