FreeCAD

FreeCAD is an open-source parametric 3D modeler for designing real-life objects, from product prototypes and mechanical parts to furniture, architecture, and 3D-printed models. Its parametric approach lets users modify designs by editing parameters and model history, while the Sketcher provides constrained 2D geometry that can serve as the basis for 3D objects. The software runs on Windows, Mac, and Linux, and reads and writes formats including STEP, IGES, STL, SVG, DXF, OBJ, IFC, DAE, and its native FCStd format.

FreeCAD includes a solid-based geometry kernel built on Open CASCADE Technology, supporting solids, BRep objects, NURBS curves and surfaces, Boolean operations, and fillets. It offers dedicated workbenches for Part Design, BIM, CAM/CNC, finite element analysis, point clouds, OpenSCAD files, and industrial robot trajectory design, along with a built-in Assembly workbench based on the Ondsel Solver. Python scripting is available throughout, from the integrated console and macros to custom tools and full workbenches, and community add-ons extend both functionality and file-format support. FreeCAD is free to use with no licensing fees, and is aimed at hobbyists, students, teachers, programmers, and experienced CAD users across product design, mechanical engineering, and architecture.
