Elixir

The Elixir programming language.

Visit Elixir

Elixir is a dynamic, functional programming language for building scalable and maintainable applications, running on the Erlang VM. It addresses the need for systems that recover from failures and remain easy to maintain, using immutability, memory safety, and a gradual type system. A single codebase can scale vertically across multi-core machines and horizontally across nodes, supporting message-oriented and web real-time systems.

The language ships with a package manager, code formatter, documentation, IEx (interactive shell), and Livebook (interactive notebooks). Its ecosystem includes Phoenix, LiveView, Ecto, and Plug for web development; Nerves and AtomVM for embedded systems; Numerical Elixir (Nx), Bumblebee, and Axon for machine learning; Broadway, Membrane, and Oban for data and media processing; and Hex for community packages. It targets web development, embedded systems, machine learning, data and media, IoT, and distributed systems.

Elixir is open source and available for installation at no cost. It is used by individual developers and larger teams, with the Erlang Ecosystem Foundation supporting the language and community.
