Visit Contao

Contao is an open source content management system built on the Symfony framework and licensed under LGPL-3.0. It addresses the need to run multiple websites from one installation, maintain multilingual content, and manage collaborative editing through fine-grained user permissions. The CMS includes built-in calendar, news/blog, and newsletter modules, and its functionality can be extended with additional packages.

Key capabilities include TinyMCE rich-text editing, a flexible form generator, a full-text search engine, a built-in file manager, responsive image handling, and SEO tools such as schema.org structured data and XML sitemaps. The Contao Manager provides a browser-based interface for installing, updating, and managing Contao and its extensions through Composer. The platform supports accessibility standards, caching technologies, passkeys, and two-factor authentication.

Contao is suited to agencies, companies, and developers building websites, portals, e-commerce, and enterprise sites. It is distributed as free open source software under LGPL-3.0, with regular releases and LTS versions receiving four years of support. Additional packages are available through extensions.contao.org and Packagist.
