CoCalc
Hosted collaborative computing platform for shared Linux projects and notebooks.
CoCalc is a hosted collaborative computing platform developed by SageMath, Inc., operating since 2013. It provides persistent Linux projects where people and AI agents work together with shared files, notebooks, terminals, and running software. The platform addresses the problem of computational work being tied to a single laptop or installation, or context trapped in a chat window, by keeping environments durable, collaborative, and inspectable.
Projects include collaborative Jupyter notebooks with cell chat and TimeTravel history, an online LaTeX editor with PDF preview, a Linux terminal, and hosted Linux environments with SSH and web apps. Users can run Python, R, Julia, SageMath, and GNU Octave, open graphical Linux applications, and choose compute options including dedicated machines or remote Jupyter kernels. AI features include an integrated Codex agent, Claude Code as an experimental preview, and other command-line agents run in project terminals. Automation is available through the CoCalc CLI and HTTP API.
CoCalc is used by researchers, educators, technical teams, and institutions. The hosted service offers a free plan, Basic, Standard, and Pro memberships, with some including AI usage. Team seats can be purchased and assigned to individuals, and organization licensing is available for departments, universities, labs, companies, and research groups. Dedicated project hosts and customer-operated deployment paths are also offered.
