Capistrano
A remote server automation and deployment tool written in Ruby.
Capistrano is a remote server automation and deployment tool written in Ruby. It extends the Rake DSL with methods such as on() for executing tasks across defined roles, allowing commands to be run on remote servers in parallel. Although written in Ruby, it can be used to deploy applications in any language, and it can be extended to handle language- or framework-specific deployment requirements.
The documentation covers installation, structure, configuration, user input, application preparation, flow, rollbacks, cold start, version locking, tasks, local tasks, before/after hooks, and authentication and authorisation. Advanced features include console, PTYs, filtering, properties, host filtering, role filtering, custom filters, overriding Capistrano tasks, remote file tasks, remote commands with SSHKit, preventing file deployment with gitattributes, validation of variables, and custom SCM plugins. Official and third-party plugins are also available.
