Gradle

Gradle Build Tool accelerates developer productivity

Visit Gradle

Gradle is an open source build system for Java, Android, and Kotlin projects, automating the building of software across a range of types and sizes. It addresses the need for builds that remain fast, reproducible, and maintainable as projects grow in complexity, using expressive DSLs in Kotlin and Groovy to keep build logic readable.

Core capabilities include incremental builds, build caching, parallel execution, and a compiler daemon for performance. Dependency management covers transitive dependencies, custom scopes, Maven and Ivy repository compatibility, native BOM support, dynamic version resolution with locking, and version conflict resolution. Build scans provide web-based build visualization with collaborative debugging and customizable data, while execution options include continuous build, composite builds, task exclusion, and dry runs. The Gradle Init Plugin can create new builds or convert existing Maven builds, and a Tooling API allows embedding Gradle in developer tools. Ecosystem-specific features support JVM, Android, and native applications.

Gradle is open source and available as a free download, with a free introductory course offered through DPE University. A Gradle Security Subscription is available separately, providing prioritized security fixes under SLA, maintenance beyond the open-source end-of-life policy, and embargoed vulnerability disclosure.
