BookStack
Simple, self-hosted platform for organising and storing information
BookStack is an open-source, self-hosted wiki platform for organising and storing documentation. Content is structured into three levels—Books, Chapters and Pages—and is fully searchable across books, chapters and pages, with the ability to link directly to individual paragraphs. It is built with PHP on the Laravel framework and uses MySQL for data storage.
The platform includes a WYSIWYG page editor with built-in diagrams.net drawing, an optional Markdown editor with live preview, page revisions, image management, cross-book sorting, and a role and permission system. Authentication supports email/password, OIDC, SAML2 and LDAP, along with multi-factor authentication via TOTP and static backup codes. The interface is available in light and dark themes and in multiple languages.
BookStack is aimed at teams and individuals who want to self-host their own documentation system. It is MIT licensed and free to download and install, with no cost for running your own instance. A demo instance is available for testing, and support plans are offered separately.
