ArchiveBox
Open-source self-hosted web archiving
ArchiveBox is an open-source, self-hosted application for preserving web content as durable files on infrastructure you control. It captures websites, bookmarks, RSS feeds, social posts, media, source code, and research material in formats including HTML, PDF, PNG, TXT, JSON, WARC, MP4, and SQLite, helping users retain content even after original pages change or disappear.
It offers a CLI, Web UI, REST API, webhooks, and a browser extension, with automatic extraction of embedded media such as audio, video, git archives, forum posts, and SEO metadata. Tagging and full-text search are supported via Sonic and ripgrep, and a TLSNotary signing plugin provides verifiable captures. Integration options include MCP, scheduled imports, and an abx-dl tool for AI agents. It runs on macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS, Android, and Docker, with installation available through Docker Compose, pip/uv, apt, Homebrew, and community packages.
ArchiveBox is aimed at individuals, professionals, and institutions, including personal archivists, lawyers, journalists, researchers, libraries, governments, and collection-building teams. It is free, self-hosted, and reports no analytics; no paid editions or seat-based plans are described.
