Open Archiver is a self-hosted email archiving and eDiscovery tool released under an open-source license. It ingests mail from Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, IMAP servers, PST, EML and MBOX files, and provides full-text search across messages and attachments, including OCR of attachment content. A free self-hosted edition is available under AGPL-3.0, while a commercial Enterprise Edition adds compliance, legal hold, encryption at rest, real-time journaling, SSO and API access.
The free edition includes universal ingestion, full-text search with thread view, deduplication, local filesystem storage, basic user roles and a web interface. Enterprise adds AES-256 encryption of archived files, retention policies, legal holds, an immutable audit trail, SMTP-based email journaling, four-eyes deletion, advanced role-based access control, Single Sign-On (OpenID Connect and SAML), and API access. Storage backends include local filesystem and S3-compatible object storage. The system is deployed with Docker Compose on self-managed infrastructure.
