Algernon
Web server with built-in support for QUIC, HTTP/2, Lua, Teal, Markdown, Pongo2, and Hyper.
Algernon is a small, self-contained web server written in Go that packages templating, scripting, database access, and protocol support into a single executable. It is designed to serve pages written in Markdown, Pongo2, Amber, HTML, or JSX, with Lua or Teal scripts handling request logic and data access, reducing the need for separate tooling or background processes.
Built-in capabilities include HTTP/2, QUIC, and regular HTTP serving, Lua and Teal scripting, Markdown and template rendering, Sass (SCSS) and GCSS preprocessing, JSX conversion, and Ollama integration for LLM prompts. Database backends include BoltDB (built-in), Redis, PostgreSQL, SQLite, MariaDB/MySQL, and MSSQL. Additional features cover rate limiting, graceful shutdown, a plugin system, users and permissions, caching, an interactive REPL, and auto-refresh live preview.
Algernon runs on Linux, macOS, and 64-bit Windows, with no external dependencies beyond Go. It is available through distro packages (Homebrew, Arch Linux), pre-built release images, Docker, or building from source with Go 1.21 or later. Applications can be packaged into .zip or .alg archives and loaded at startup, with a companion alg2docker utility for creating Docker images.
