VICE

The Versatile Commodore Emulator

Visit VICE

VICE is a free emulator that runs programs written for old 8-bit computers on modern machines, including Unix, MS-DOS, Win32, OS/2, BeOS, QNX, Amiga, Syllable and Mac OS X systems. It covers the C64, C64DTV, C128, VIC20, most PET models, the PLUS4 and the CBM-II (C610/C510), with an additional emulator for a C64 expanded with the CMD SuperCPU.

The software is distributed as source tarballs and binary builds for Windows, macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel), Android, Amiga, MS-DOS, BeOS, QNX, OS/2 and other Unix-based systems, with GTK3 and SDL2 interface options. It exposes a stable binary monitor interface used by external tools such as the C64 Studio IDE, vice bridge .net, and several debuggers including IceBro Lite, vscode-cc65-debugger and vs64. Related resources include printer output utilities for Postscript and PNG, FFMPEG codec libraries, and CBM4Win/CBM4Linux drivers with OpenCBM.

VICE is aimed at users who need to run or develop software for legacy Commodore and related 8-bit platforms. It is released as free software under the GNU General Public License, with no paid editions or subscription tiers described.
