MacPorts is an open-source, command-line software package system for macOS that simplifies compiling, installing, and upgrading open-source software. It provides access to thousands of ports—individual software titles—through a single software tree that tracks the latest release of each title, targeting macOS Sonoma v14 and later. The project is distributed under a 3-Clause BSD License.

The system handles command-line, X11, and Aqua-based software. Ports are organized into different categories, with new titles added regularly. The current release is 2.12.6. Support resources include online documentation known as the MacPorts Guide, a Trac Wiki server and bug tracker, mailing lists, and IRC chat. The project also participates in the Google Summer of Code program for student contributors.

MacPorts is intended for users, system administrators, and developers working on macOS who need to manage open-source software installations. It is available as open-source software under a BSD license, with no paid editions, trials, or seat-based plans indicated.
