A free RTS game engine for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X
Spring is a free, open-source 3D real-time strategy game engine for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X. It is built for running RTS games with large-scale battles, supporting online, LAN, and offline single-player play with up to 5000 units. The engine uses Lua for scripting game-specific code, allowing customization of the GUI, unit AI, and pathfinding.
Key features include fully 3D maps with deformable terrain, forest fires, dynamic and reflective water, and custom skyboxes; multiple camera modes; 3D land, sea, and air combat with physics-based weapon trajectories; and support for third-party AI players. The engine is written in C++ using OpenGL, Lua, SDL2, and other libraries, and is released under GPLv2. Users can build their own games, create maps, and program AI players in several languages.
