RdpGuard is an intrusion prevention system for Windows Server that automatically blocks IP addresses after repeated failed login attempts, helping protect Remote Desktop and other internet-facing services from brute-force attacks. It runs as a Windows service, so protection continues even when no user is logged in. The software is positioned as a Fail2Ban alternative for Windows, providing automatic IP blocking through a graphical dashboard.
RdpGuard monitors a range of services from one dashboard, including Remote Desktop, FTP, IMAP, POP3, SMTP, MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, IIS web logins, ASP.NET Web Forms, Microsoft Exchange, RD Web Access, VoIP/SIP, OpenSSH, Apache HTTP Server, nginx, and MS VPN (RRAS). Blocking thresholds and durations are configurable, and a Whitelist supports DNS/DDNS hostnames. IP Cloud shares attack reports across participating RdpGuard servers to block known attacking IPs, while Geo-IP controls block or allow connections by country with automatically updated country IP ranges and per-port scope settings. A CLI covers rules, exclusions, event logs, and UI settings.
RdpGuard is intended for administrators of Windows and Windows Server systems (64-bit). It is available as a fully functional 30-day free trial, with a downloadable free trial edition of version 10.4.1.
