Podcast Generator

The open-source engine that quietly powered a generation of podcasters

Visit Podcast Generator

Podcast Generator was started as a degree project at the University of Bergamo in Italy by student Alberto Betella, at the suggestion of professor Marco Lazzari, to enable a university podcast. First released on SourceForge on April 5, 2006, the tool was designed to be simple enough for educators: upload a media file, add episode metadata, and the tool generates the RSS feed automatically. It was built to run on basic web hosting with no database required, storing episode data in flat text files. The project grew organically, used by churches, government agencies, schools, artists, and individual creators worldwide, with a volunteer community translating it into 59 languages. Alberto maintained it alone for over 13 years before collaborating with Ben Richardson, which led to the launch of RSS.com in January 2018.
