A command line interface for Postgres with auto-completion and syntax highlighting.

Visit pgcli

pgcli is a command-line interface for Postgres that adds auto-completion and syntax highlighting to interactive database sessions. It is an open-source Python project hosted on GitHub under the dbcli organization, installed via pip or Homebrew.

It connects using command-line options for host, port, username, password, and database name, or via connection strings and DSN aliases stored in the pgclirc file. It also supports many of the same environment variables as psql for login options, such as PGHOST, PGPORT, PGUSER, PGPASSWORD, and PGDATABASE. Additional options include a row-limit threshold, automatic vertical output when results exceed terminal width, a warning before running destructive queries, custom prompt formats, and a single-connection mode for completions.

pgcli is aimed at developers and database administrators who work with Postgres from the terminal. It is distributed as open-source software with no paid editions, seat-based licensing, or usage-based pricing indicated.
