OpenLDAP is an open source implementation of the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP). It provides a directory server and supporting software for storing, serving, and accessing directory data, along with load balancing for LDAP services. The project also offers related identity and data-access components, including Fortress for role-based identity access management, LMDB as a Lightning Memory-Mapped Database, and Java libraries and bridges.

The suite includes lloadd, a stand-alone LDAP load balancer daemon available as a server or slapd module; slapd, a stand-alone LDAP daemon/server; libraries implementing the LDAP protocol; and utilities, tools, and sample clients. Additional components include the Java SDK, JLDAP LDAP Class Libraries for Java, and the JDBC-LDAP Java JDBC-LDAP Bridge Driver. The project publishes a feature release and a long-term support release, and provides an Admin Guide, Quick Start Guide, manual pages, roadmap, issue tracking, mailing lists, and IRC support.
