MPC-HC
A lightweight, open source media player for Windows.
MPC-HC (Media Player Classic - Home Cinema) is an open source media player for Windows, written in C++, designed to play common video and audio file formats. It aims to run on older hardware, including SSE2 CPUs, and includes no advertisements or toolbars. The project has not been under development since 2017, with v1.7.13 (July 2017) described as the last release.
The player supports GPU-assisted decoding and can function as a DVB player. It offers a wide array of configuration options, including custom toolbars, and is translated into 42 languages. It relies on third-party libraries including LAV Filters, MediaInfoLib, and FFmpeg, and integrates with subtitle databases such as OpenSubtitles, Podnapisi, Napisy24, and SubDB. Source code is hosted on GitHub.
MPC-HC is distributed as free, open source software for Windows, with 32-bit and other system builds available. It is intended for users seeking a lightweight local media player. The project's homepage directs visitors to switch to an alternative, and support is handled through the project's bug tracker rather than direct contact with team members.
